History

Built on Craftsmanship. Carried Forward with Purpose.

Myers Electric was founded in 1983 by Jim Myers, a highly skilled and deeply technical electrician who believed that quality work, attention to detail, and personal responsibility were inseparable. Jim built the company with a strong respect for the trade and an expectation that every project be approached thoughtfully, carefully, and with pride.

Known for his precision and problem-solving ability, Jim was hands-on in every aspect of the business. His standard—often expressed as “perfect, or better”—reflected a commitment to craftsmanship and accountability rather than perfection for its own sake. Over time, Myers Electric earned a reputation for dependable work, strong relationships, and trust built one job at a time.

For many years, the company remained intentionally small, with Jim closely involved in both the work and the client relationships that defined the business.

A Defining Transition

In 2012, leadership of the company began transitioning from founder Jim Myers to Kevin Kent. Kevin had worked closely with Jim and shared his respect for the trade, the work, and the people behind it. The transition was guided by a clear priority: continuity—carrying forward the standards, expectations, and responsibility that had defined the company from the beginning.

As leadership responsibilities shifted, Kevin assumed full operational oversight later that year, and the company began operating as Myers Electric & Automation Inc. Throughout the transition, the work, the relationships, and the commitment to quality remained unchanged.

Jim passed away in February 2013. By that time, the transition had been completed, and the foundation he built—his approach to the work, his values, and his expectations—was firmly in place and continues to guide the company today.

Steady Growth and Maturing Leadership

In the years that followed, the company moved forward through experience, learning, and steady progress. The focus remained consistent: do the work well, honor commitments, and take care of people.

As leadership matured, the organization strengthened its team, refined its operations, and increased its capacity. Growth came through consistency and trust rather than shortcuts or spectacle. Over time, the company evolved with greater clarity, discipline, and confidence in how it served its clients and supported its people.

Moving Forward as MKI

Today, we are aligning under Myers Kent Industries (MKI) as the next step in our company’s evolution.

MKI provides a clear umbrella for the work we deliver and the standard we uphold, while preserving the heritage and values that have defined us since 1983.

Same commitment, same expectations, same focus on serving our customers well.

Our Commitment

From its founding to today, the company has remained grounded in a consistent set of commitments:

  • Craftsmanship and attention to detail
  • Integrity in every decision
  • Responsibility to clients and team members
  • Continuous learning and improvement
  • Trust built through consistency over time

Those commitments continue to guide how we work and how we serve.
