Journeyman Electrician – Job Description

As a Journeyman Electrician, you will represent our commitment to quality, safety, and respectful communication while supporting a positive, team-focused environment.

General Expectations

  • Maintain current knowledge of the NEC, NFPA 70E, the Myers Electric Safety Manual, and the Myers Electric Team Handbook. 
  • Demonstrate a positive, team-oriented attitude at all times.
  • If concerns arise—whether about the work environment or interactions with other team members—share them directly with your supervisor so we can support you.
  • Use professional, respectful language at all times; foul or offensive language is not permitted.
     

Job Performance Standards

  • Complete work in compliance with the most current code requirements and the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ).
  • Perform all tasks safely, neatly, and according to Myers Electric Safe Work Practices or customer policies, whichever is more stringent.
  • Work efficiently and avoid downtime—there is always an opportunity to organize, clean, prepare, or plan ahead.
  • Before beginning any task, ensure you have a clear understanding of expectations from the customer and your supervisor.
  • Any change in scope requested by a customer must be approved by your supervisor.

Job Sites, Shop & Vehicles

  • Maintain clean, orderly job sites, work areas, and company vehicles.
  • Keep tools and materials organized for easy access and efficient workflow.
  • Practice the “full hands in, full hands out” method to reduce unnecessary trips.
  • Eliminate tripping hazards and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Use job bins for gathering materials and do not remove materials assigned to another job unless you have arranged a replacement and notified the appropriate team member.

Communication Standards

  • When speaking with customers, do not take calls, texts, or emails—give them your full attention.
  • All on-site communication should be job-related. Personal communication should be limited to emergencies.
  • Ask clarifying questions before starting work to ensure accuracy and alignment.
  • Communicate with customers using clear, simple language—avoid technical jargon.
     

Forms & Documentation

  • Complete all material lists before leaving the job site.
  • Submit customer feedback forms and vendor recognition forms as needed in a timely manner.
  • Turn in daily receipts and material lists by the end of the workday.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Install electrical equipment, devices, and components in compliance with the NEC and local codes.
  • Troubleshoot, test, diagnose, and resolve electrical issues.
  • Read, interpret, and update drawings, blueprints, and construction documents, including marking up as-built drawings.
  • Lead and manage small jobs independently without a Project Manager.
  • Supervise apprentices and laborers on-site, providing guidance and ensuring safe, quality work.
  • Order parts or assist in coordinating material procurement as required.
  • Perform additional tasks as needed based on project scope.We provide installation services for all types of electrical systems including lighting, ceiling fans, electrical panels, and more. Our electricians are certified and experienced to ensure your installation is done right the first time.
